Gym is right because the turnouts will drop. Knapton is right to suggest an intermittent DYP...especially since BC's is virtually the only place to play right now. Emphasis on "intermittent."

In my professional Oracle divine opinionated opinion!

Everyone talks shit about this game, Jedi included, how bad ass we all are, and yet all we do to back it up with a 5 buck gamble..

Personally, I don't care what the entry is, im still going to dish out punishment.
But if it was 10 in a DYP and singles, I would be left to assume that there would be less players acting like circus clowns across the table, and your partner just might play a little harder, possibly realizing that its not funzy foos night, and the heat is "ON.

Miller and Dustin make valid points. But the reality is that the turnout would be small. This certainly would not be the way to get new players into the game. I'll respect these opinions more when there are alternative tourneys that cater to rookies.

I like foos nights because it’s cheap entertainment. Once you start making entries $10, + $1 slides…it can start to impact my monthly budget (especially cause I suck lately and am not practicing).

That’s $50 - $80 a month (not including drinks), which is something that might scare away some players. New players are absolutely not going to pay $10 entries. I’m with Ryan that we need a new rookie only tourney.

But if $10 is going to bring out the big dogs, I’m all for it. Though we all know foosball players are not driven by money, so long term, higher entries wouldn’t work in my opinion. Maybe once a month do something special like Tommy is doing this week.

X

PS - $1 slides suck BALLS. It’s brutal in singles and pick up games. I used to budget $5 in quarters for the night for pick ups and tourney games, and it’s way more now.

Allow me to present you a free preview of that new singles tourney ($20 dollar entry), with a good turnout.

Week 1 results:

1st. Ryan Moore
2nd Boogie
3rd Daniel
4th Dustin
5/6 CJ
5/6 Miller

Week 2 results:

1st. Ryan Moore
2nd. Daniel
3rd. Boogie
4th. Miller
5/6 Roger
5/6 Dustin

Week 3 results

1st. Ryan Moore
2nd. Robbie Mares
3rd. Boogie
4th. Sticky
5/6 Daniel
5/6 Dustin

Week 4 results

1st. Ryan Moore/Robbie (split)
2nd. Ryan/Robbie (split)
3rd. Boogie
4th. Acuna
5/6 Wayne
5/6 Mitch

(everyone else quits playing)

so, calculating in entry fees and quarters+travel, gas=

Miller- total winnings: $15 for 4th place on week 2.
Miller- Net cost of singles, for the month: entries: $80 quarters: $36 gas: $24.50
Total loss, one month: $140.50.

BUT- Minus the sheer profit- ($15.00)

The price of a game has gone from a quarter to a dollar however. History has proven itself over and over that the higher entry fees unfortunately lead to fewer players so you end up playing for the same size pot but your cost is higher so Dustin sorry bro but you'll go home with $5 less.
Now raise it to $20 and you may get the Pro Masters and other top players out more at the expense of the 'lesser' players but then poor Jedi would never cash. Oh sure, 'lessers' will show up on occasion but not weekly. Then bar owners will ask "why again am I matching half the pot for the dozen or fewer Foosers, half of which are only drinking water?"
Sorry to burst your pipe dreaming bubbles.

if the entry was 10 all this time, would you have quit the game?

Yeah I'm sure foosers are looking forward to losing those foot stomping, table jarring, grumpy f*ck, self praising circus clowns from foosball.

I work for a living, and if 10 dollars for an entry is going to stop me from playing, then I shouldn't even be playing this game.. I travel longer miles than anyone else to play this game in the metro..and anyone that has played on my side may vouch that half the time i lay in the slide a buck just to get the next game going. I don't care what i spend on the game, because its a foos career to me!

If a newbie is going to pick up the game, just because the entry is cheap, then they are really missing out on what the game is really all about, and that's winning, winning the hard way from the beginning with all the hard knocks and blows of losing like all of us endured, that are great players now.. They are just going to have to apply themselves to their best learning abilities, against the players like from BCs or anywhere else for that matter..

Now, i do understand the issue of scaring of newbies, because the competitive level is off the charts now days.. But this isn't the time to start feeling sorry for the new comer's..If they really want to learn the game and be a part of the player base that is a driving force in this state, then they are just going to have to jump right on in there like everyone else did..
We all had to apply ourselves to get where we all are now, and we didn't apply ourselves to be winners, just because the entry is a 5 buck gamble..

We as the best player base in the world, cant play rebuttal and go back and forth with this issue like a flip of a coin... We need to establish a higher rate of entry for weekly events, that simple!

its only going to make the game better in the long run, because if you build it, they will come..

a raised entry has nothing to do with Daniel, or myself..

its about players like yourself that are stuck in this limbo in their game, you try hard every week to win, but in the back of your mind you know you only payed 5 beans, so when you lose its no big deal, no lesson learned.. after time a player gets comfortable losing a 5 entry and some quarters..

Next week same thing, you just cant get past that hurdle that gets you into the money...
Your missing something that makes you close matches, and what can it be?

The answer is "Pressure" and money brings that out more than anything. A player needs to perform with Pressure. And sooo... a 5 dollar entry doesn't cause that pressure that a player needs to feed on when they play to win!

I work for a living so winning or losing money on a Friday night means SQUAT, so get off your self praising high horse, and while you're at it, until your are at least a pro, let alone a pro-master, stop including yourself in the 'best of the game' category.

Answer me this oh great Obstacle, how may 'best of the game' athletes in their respected sports pay any entry fees?

That's right great Ostrich, keep your head buried in the sand about the realities of foosball.

No Dustin... If you stuff there goalie shot with any forward rod, you get the ball on the 3, BUT ITS CALLED"GOOD FORWARD DELIGHT"!

and if you make the "Delight "shot, then you get the ball back on the 3 again..

if you make it again, it goes back on the 3..

repeat if necessary...

now that would be a goalies nightmare without a doubt!

STFU
If the goalie scores they get the next drop in the goalie area. If you stuff a goalie you get the point and the drop in your goalie area. (3 Bar stuff only) neither carry over to next game.
Very simple as not to confuse any Jedi's
top goalie gets 10% points marked on the bracket sheet.
$10.00 entry

Lmao. We can no longer call the forward stuffing a "bitchslap". Bitchslap has already been defined in red above. I have to come down now. Anybody need a partner?

But an increase in your earnings at BC's totally does!
