I was wondering what some of you think about what happens after you die. Feel free to add a joke about if you want, but at least staple it to the back of your real answer. And for the "I don't know(ers)" out there, just post your best guess. I'll post my opinion after some responses. Thanks in advance.

I believe the worst part of death happens to the friends and family left behind to deal with the consequences.

Interesting topic Boogie and one that I have often wondered about. I was raised with religion so I thought there was heaven and hell and a supreme being and that anything else was bogus. As I grew older and went through more education I can see where reincarnation to a small extent would make sense, especially with our knowledge of DNA. The Earth is a big recycler so I can see how our DNA can return to the Earth when we die, and a small amount can return through plants, or bugs, bacteria, pass along to animals or humans through the eating process, and then eventually be brought back through birth into a different human being, but not enough to be you. Maybe that is why we have déjà vous moments.

Death may just be permanent sleep where there just nothing. Think about when you fall asleep and wake up and 6 to 8 hours have gone by that you were totally clueless of.

Heaven may be where your brain takes you right before you die. We saw this with my father-in-law when he passed. He was lying in his bed, empty minded, but seemingly playing with things in the middle of the air that weren't there. When my wife told me that one of the last things that he said was to make sure that his boots were under the bed because he had a mission the next day, I realized that he was actually flipping switches on his B-24 Liberator and he was back in his most memorable days of youth in WWII. When I saw the picture of he and his wife on the dresser, him in his Air Force uniform and her in her wedding dress, I knew where his heaven was. Lynn's mom died a few years before I met Lynn so I never knew her.

Maybe hell is if you die tragically and that is the last memory that you have before you pass.

Like I said, very interesting. Sorry for the long post.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts and even discussing it in person. It's very hard to type in words what the brain wants to relay in conversation.

Basic premise for me is that energy can't be destroyed, the soul being an 'energy' then continues on in some form or another. I think the possibility for reincarnation exists. I think the Dark Energy that exists in the universe might be related to the energy of the soul.

I read the Bhagavad Gita a few years back and found it pretty interesting as it relates to this topic. It was able to fill in some gaps for me or help me fill in some gaps, whichever the case may have been.

As far as I can tell the reason a soul gets reincarnated is that it hasn't done all the growing/learning/etc that it needed to in its last journey through the mortal realm. Eventually as your soul cycles in and out you eventually reach (hopefully), heaven/nirvana/oneness.

So in theory; you die, your soul rejoins all the other souls making up the Dark Energy in the universe until (based on your Karma - not just your karma earned in your most recent life but the entirety of your soul's karma) you either ascend to Nirvana/heaven/oneness or you cycle back through Earth/mortality to try and grow and improve your karmic standing. When you're born your soul essentially gets liberated from the Dark Energy of the universe and imprisoned in a mortal shell again -- so to speak.

In one sense the Dark Energy that holds the universe together is God/Krishna, when you die you rejoin them/it; eventually the goal is for it to be permanent-ish?

That's about as concise of a starting point as I can offer.

200 views and only 3 opinions?

What do I need to ask, what people think about some movie stars DUI? Is the subject matter too deep, or scary? Are there too many immortals in here, so the question doesn't apply?

The next question I was going to ask makes this one elementary, so I guess I will skip that. Back to your Facebook pages, all you skimmers- gotta update what you had for lunch.

On a somewhat related note, I saw this documentary a few years back on the way the Dalai Lama is found, can't remember what it was called though.

This particular Dalai Lama was kinda getting older and somehow knew his people would go through some pretty tough times not too far down the road so he (and I can't remember how exactly, or if the video even said) willed himself to die in some way or another. After some period of time the disciples know that the Dalai Lama should have been reborn and what range of birth dates to look for in order to find candidates.

His disciples gather up the Dalai Lama's belongings as well as a bunch of other similar items; stuff like his bowl, his musical instrument, his staff, etc. As they visit all these different families they expose the infant/child to the mix of items they have, showing him all the bowls at once (for example). The Dalai Lama always picks out the same set of items and that's how they recognize him!

So this Dalai Lama is able to grow up and be in the prime of his life when his people are being exiled (I think), and need a strong leader the most.

**This is very paraphrased and only to the best of my recollection!

Boog's I could post a fucking dissertation on this topic. Ive always tried to view the topic on a larger scale including the universe (basically the 3rd dimension) on a dimensional/mathematical scale (X,Y,Z graph extended infinitely) If it truly is that large than denying the possibility for existence of some other form of life out there is kind of pointless. Regardless, whatever happens to us most likely happens to everything. I know that scientists have predicted at least 4 dimensions (I think up to 10?). The first three being spacial dimensions the fourth possibly being that of TIME, consciousness, thoughts, ideas (the soul). I'd like to think of heaven as some sort of graduation to into a visible or tangible fourth dim. Where the personality and fabric of the soul lives on when the physical has been exhausted to repeat the cycle of mater.

And if you think that's ridiculous enough I also think the Vikings may have had it right. Ragnarok is a bad ass idea. Long live the god's of war.

Brothers will fight
and kill each other,
sisters' children
will defile kinship.
It is harsh in the world,
whoredom rife
—an axe age, a sword age
—shields are riven—
a wind age, a wolf age—
before the world goes headlong.
No man will have
mercy on another.[10]

I got this off of the Ragnarok wiki.

Well I haven't offered my opinion up yet because I was waiting for yours.

BUT!

I truly believe that when I am gone I will be reborn as a big ass catfish that will live out it's days in the Arkansas River ruling a 25 mile stretch. Making fun of all the sport fish and the fisherman trying to catch them. Telling jokes and having good times with all my fish buddies.
