Hello everyone my name is Edd and I am new to this forum.

I use to play a lot of foosball in the early 90's in college. I fell away from the game over the years. I picked up a brown marble coin-op Tornado a couple of months ago to teach my two boys ages 12 and 14 the game.

As of right now I am the only person they have learned from and quickly picking up the game I might ad. But you all know it takes a lot of time and different opponents to become a well rounded player.

I would like to find them some other local Denver area junior players they could play against. We live in Littleton.

I am also trying to find places to play as well.

Hi Edd,

The biggest weekly tourney is Friday nights at the Bonfire Tavern, Jewell and Wadsworth. It's a Bring Your Partner, but beginner teams get free entry. I think that when beginners (I'm going to go out on a limb and call you a beginner, unless you played in tournaments back in the day) show up they have one of two reactions:
1) "Wow, these guys are really good. Screw this!"
2) "Wow, these guys are really good. I want to get better!"

Unfortunately, it seems that most have the first reaction, but the good news is that you have already invested in a good table, so you can continue to work on your game. And your kids are the perfect age to start learning, and picking up good habits.

You might want to check out the rookie tournament on Mondays at the Balloon Inn. I've never been, but it looks like there's a good mix of skill levels showing up, and it seems to be run well. Check out the most recent post on this forum for details.

As for your kids...hmmm...there will be events for them at the national tournament in the Springs in July. One of the bad things about foosball is there doesn't seem to be a good place to develop young players. If there happened to be a table at an arcade, the rods are certain to be dirty and sticky, and the odds of decent young players being there are not good. My boy is 11, and I live in Littleton. Maybe you're actually a nice guy with decent kids, and we can get together sometime for a basement foos sesh.

By all means, show up at the Bonfire this Friday, maybe by 7:30, and play some warmup games, before the tourney starts at 8:30. You'll get a feel for it, and a few hours later, maybe Scott, Mark, Jim, or I will play some more with you, if we're eliminated from the tourney earlier than we want to be.

Nick

Thank you Nick for the local tournament info. I will definitely check out the Friday tournament sometime.

Edd, when you see Nick and I play and hear that we won at Bonfire, you will go to your practice table, put in a little time, and realize that you can win at foos. :)
We'll look forward to seeing you at Bonfire and playing some foos.
What kinda boost have you got? (car guy?)

Lmao-

Nick in a sidecar gives a whole new meaning to the appropriate motorcycle term "sidehack."

Hello Jim,

A long time ago I use to run a car website www.igotboost.com. Now I just use igotboost as a forum name. Wife and kids have taken the place of cars.

Is there opportunities some times when people are looking for a doubles partner? Since I do not know of anyone that plays I do not have a partner.

I am also entering my kids and myself into the Nationals Tournament. It looks like fun.

I've got a '73 Camaro with a 468 big block and a Weiand 177 supercharger so I know about boost! :)
Baller (Tim) who's responsible for our Friday tourneys used to have a Pro-charged GTO and Pimp (Darryl) used to have a 70-73 (can't remember exact year) Camaro with a 383 on nitrous. We've got car guys for ya too! Foos and Cars, sweet!
Show up Friday to meet everybody and there's a good chance somebody will be looking for a partner

Not the last one, it was definitely 2nd generation from the 70-73 time frame.

Excuse me but 70 1/2 fits between 70-73. Thank you!

Go get your Camaro back so we can race!

No not enough Hamsterpower to pull the extra sidehack weight, so I had to remove it.

I did get it to go 70mph down a hill once though.
