Told you I was a novice for life!

But that wasn't me, I was the James Thornton who played football for the Chicago Bears.

Okay, maybe not.

I'm just Jim.

Bummer.

Ran into Spear reading at the Arvada library and showed him this picture. He goes "is that me?" haha, I said yeah, I stopped a video and snapped a screen shot of Mr. Cool.

There was a time in the later 70s that the article of Foos news would be mailed to my address. It would have all the top running players listed, pro tips, interview's of players, state location's for up coming events.

It was at a time when most of us remember, when the game was raw and simple, no rollover was established at that time, and the design of the tables were going through changes to keep up with the demand of higher tech of design to create easier ball handling and control by the players. Tournament Soccer tried to keep up with those demand changes, making two more model's after the original green top, "The blue top, and finally the brown top model........Then lo and behold, here comes and lands the Tornado Texas made table that was introduced as "The Standard" and rightfully so named, because The Tornado table and its design has been the main table for 30+ years. And even though Tornado has gone through its own design changes, it just keeps getting better... I remember when the men were foot heavy, and you had to place the forward rods straight up, and even then a little action on the table would make the men drop down like a Garlando and that was tough to deal with, now there is a lead weight in the head to balance the rod, so a player could place the angle anywhere..and now theres a hole in the foot and a groove in the leg for durability, that was a good thing there because players and I Included was breaking alot of men shooting shots. I would break about 5 men a month shooting a Roll pull, because of the high velocity level that kind of stroke produceses...

Yeah Foos News. it would be grand for the Foos world to have something like that article again.

I remember those early days in Boulder...
Mark Russo was a great player. The best pull kick I have ever seen. He would stare at the goalie and when the goalie would blink or look up he would hammer a long. His dink was very hard to stop as well.
He did a tick-tack pass.

At the many arcades the tables would be lined with quarters and when traveling pros came through they were beat by locals.
Boulder was a hot bed for foos for sure...

Gil, Tom, Bob G., and Todd would come up for the frat parties. One time when I was hanging with Gil and Bob some frat boys said they would take us on for money. Well I was not real good but we returned the next week with Tom and Todd for the money match.
It took us forever to find the guys and then a table but when we did it was not even close and the guys did pay up albeit in some foreign money that I am sure the guys just stashed away.

A great bunch of guys and terrific foos players that spent day and night perfecting their game.

Tom would host player parties at his house. His two table were full and the action was fun yet competitive to hold the table.
I recounted one such get together with Mark Rudneki (sp?) at Co states and the time when he broke his hand hitting the punching bag in Tom's garage.
Great times...well not so great for Mark as he was playing at the top of his game before he did that. He came up to Boulder to attend a tourney I was putting on at the Milky Way and still played. He stayed in goalie as he couldn't really use his right hand but his left hand shots from goal were way harder than anyone else there.
