RESULTS ...7/8: Nick/Ilya
5/6: Josh/Joe
5/6: Ilya/Jakub
4: Birte/Wil
3: Chris C / Chris B
2: Jerry/Rob
1: Tom/TeddyTourament went pretty smoothly in my mind.. even with the rain included. There was a Good amount of free time before the Bar closed for pick-ups on 1 table. The tournament started a little late, but we finished on time.
Wil said the new Digital Bracket was "Fancy" in his slightly sarcatic way with a smile :)
Teddy liked that it was forced into 1 spot for reference, instead of roaming the Bar.
FYI.. Hit up Facebook / NYC Foosball to view the Completed version.
Welcome
Nick to the fold tonight, he's played once or twice at Banter. A beginner to the Sport, you could see he has some experience on Defense.. Constantly moving, making sure his guys are covering all the Holes, but always 2 different holes with the Goalie & the 2-Rod. Solid work, thanks for coming out !!
Joe and
Josh took the victory in a great Match against Birte/Wil, but got bumped out of Winners Bracket by some nice Bank Shots by my partner
Jerry. Then faced the Chris's in 1 of the Highlight Matches of the night, but fell a little short.
PS - Happy Birthday Josh !!!
Although,
Chris B couldn't reprise last week, he put up a great fight. Despite him and
Chris C having very little table time as teammates, they played great together. Their battle with
Birte &
Wil was Another sure-fire Highlight Match...
It was a fight straight thru to the end, with a fair amount of switching and trying different combinations to muster the next goal. Birte ripping Snake Shots and Chris B working his defense into the mix...
But, I think it had to be Chris C's ridiculous streak of 3 to 4 passes from his 2-Rod to Chris B's 3-Rod that did the Foreigners in. Adding opportunities directly to Brand's Pull Shot could be trouble. Ultimately the Chris's were able to secure a very very close match !!
The consecutive weeks in a row have really paid off for
Teddy. His 5-Bar pass isn't quite A+ yet, but at this point he's able to look at the hole he wants, long enough throughout the progression of his Hard Brush series, that it gives him time to wait and excute when he sees the hole open. And he's extrapolted off of the success of this wait and see senario with his 3-Rod.. Being patient on his hole and then executing.
On top of this, there was another key factor I saw between
Tom & Teddy throughout the Tournament and definately in our Matches. It reminded me, in a way, to a Maryland States I played with
Sean Lotts.. We took 1st in Handicapped Doubles, but it wasn't the First Place I was proud of. I was proud of us because at every difficult moment we faced, I made sure I stayed calm and kept Sean calm and we responded ... although a handicapped event, it wasn't easy with the names listed in that Event.
But, that's something Teddy has, a nice clamness about him.. and each time something bad happened, the situation remained calm and Tommy responded well. Teddy in turn responded by up'ing his game at the end. Waiting on proper moments to strke with the 3-Rod and Pulling (no pun intended) out a Victory after being Dipped once in the Championship Match.
Congrats Guys !!!
