18 teams
1 - Kane/Dave Ross DD 2 - Steve/ Bart 3 - Rudnicki/BJ 4 - Lopez/Rusche
Thanks for coming out everyone! Competition is brutal!
I did hear some good ideas about somehow making the tourney more "rookie friendly" every now and then. That is really hard to do, but I am open to all ideas. If you come up with a reasonable easy format, please let me know, and we'll try it out.
Also keep in mind that the best players are sometimes open to playing with other players to teach them. Don't be afriad to ask.
Thanks! X |

2nq sucks, but I see that both teams that beat us ended up cashing.

Occasional DYP's are fun, but I wonder if there's a fair way to maybe group the rooks in their own round robin bracket or something, with the winner advancing. That said, it seems like everyone there these days is good...even Austin. The way we get better is to play the better teams.

How about practice your ass off. Examples: Ross, Dustin, Brubaker, JFT, Sherm, Teezy,....etc. They were all rookies in Colorado.
Or we could get ribbons.

I agree with Gym, if someone new comes and get's their ass kicked and doesn't get motivated to get better, then they need not be playing foos. I get my ass kicked every Friday, just makes me want to get better, I don't need a kiddy table bracket, that's dumb. my $.02.

But you do want a ribbon, admit it.

I would suggest putting the guppies on tables 1 and 4, but I don't want to be relegated to tables 1 and 4.

Anyway, it sounds like the Monday tourney in Arvada is great for rooks.

I actually agree with Nick on this one, if you want rookie action show up on Mondays. I thought Friday was supposed to be "swimming with the sharks."
There's foos 6 nights per week in Denver, why dumb down the toughest weekly around? You already let them play free...

People either have the fire and desire to play foosball or they don't. We've got great locations all around, and each cater a little differently. Monday is for rooks, Tuesday is a beast of a DYP with pro style play but welcoming of all playing abilities, Wed you've got singles, and Friday is the BEST tourney in the country hands down. If someone shows up to the BYP it can most certainly be culture shock, but I believe most of us would steer someone in the right direction as far as when and where they should be playing etc.
I think it rests on all of us to make sure we are spreading the game. Play pickups with people, tell them about tourneys, etc. Just a little bit of info and good games will turn some bar hacks into actual tourney players. If all they see is the tourney play and how brutally competitive it can be it might scare them off.
I'll keep putting in my due diligence, ie showing up to the sweetwater 3 nights a week to play with the local competetion and explain rules etc. Hope a few others do the same.
