I know how Miller feels about this, but I asked Phil Peros for his opinion. He is TD at the LA Foos Club.
Nick, The reason I play in public is to either improve my game for Tour or at least maintain when I don't have the time to practice like I'd want. With that said, it's difficult to maintain much less improve if you're not consistently attracting good players that are able to challenge you when you're playing your best. Therefore I think it's important to do everything a promoter can do to cater to the top players to attract them to play more: So the only thing I can figure is trying to build as much money as possible for prize money while maintaining a supportive atmosphere to build the lower level players of the area to encourage them to come back more so they get hooked too.
New Players entry in BYP's is only $5 Until you Cash at the LA FoosClub, then it's $10
We consistently pay $100 - $120 for 1st place at LA FoosClub, I couldn't picture the best players showing up to practice for any less additionally I couldn't picture getting enough good talent in consistently enough to make it so the top players ever wanted to drop in.

Some valid points in there, although I think our pots are similar, since we have more teams, and the bar adds to the pot. However, I would like to know if a $10 entry would truly encourage the area's top players to show up regularly. Can someone ask Champ?

Different game but Greg Kingsbury has been getting great turnouts at Mile High Billiards with his handicapped format with a $20 entry. |

I don't think Robbie would come for $10.
Doesn't Ryan live in the Springs now? I don't think that would get him out.
My opinion is that it wouldn't change anything. It might keep out some players who don't want to throw away an extra $5, and it might bring in a couple of players who need money...but the majority or players are just foosers until the end, and they don't care either way. The older we get, the less important a few extra bucks are.
I'm open to trying out a $10 entry, maybe once a month just to see. We saw that having singles optional brought out a few more players...so catering to some players does work, but I'm not sure to what extent $10 would do.
I do agree it might make things more competitive, as I don't know if I'd be okay with Roger and BJ winning all the time lol. $5 is a fun throwaway night for me....more than that, and I would have to start taking it a bit more serious and teaming up with only the stronger players.

If it isn't broke, no need to fix it.
