I've been trying to refine my roller strokes, and I'm having trouble pinpointing what I need to do inorder to hit deadbar both sides consistantly. Any thoughts???

Zeke has a nice tutorial on you tube...kinda breaks down the roller to the individual dots and provides a drill or two. Good refresher if nothing else.

Deadbar is overrated, unless it's a pullkick dink of course.

My suggestion would be to get smarter, and learn to be one step ahead of the defense instead of wasting time trying to shoot a deadbar stroke.

So many different approaches to shooting...last of which is shooting deadrow..

If I recall correctly, Terry Moore said that in his prime, he was able to hit around 4/5 deadbar each side and it's mainly dependent on how far back the ball is tossed behind the rod. I went around at least 6 posts last Friday (at least once or twice against Erik in our match) focusing only on that specific aspect of toss and the release point of the ball at the outermost dot. Of course, if I'd seen that the post were out there and consciously tried to square around it, I probably would have tried to do a little extra mechanically and flubbed the shot.

I've been training myself to the point where if I see a goalie daring me with a static post, I'll shoot a one dot on that side because it's almost always going to be there. I agree that you need to establish a super long to make a goalie cover all the holes, and it's nice if a goalie throws up a post as you're on the way there and you go around it, but if the whole box is established and you feel you need to shoot a deadbar, you're picking the wrong hole.

Just want to add that at one point I would always go deadrow side if they posted a deadrow D on the pullside.

There is a time and place for deadrow at the higher levels, but I would not sacrifice anything forcing it. One side is good enough. Whatever your best side is, just throw some slow tosses out there until you can start getting a feel for the deadrow stroke. A fast deep shot to the corner is just as deadly.

It's definitely a good ace to have in your pocket for certain D's.

Same with the short hole. Master one short, and learn to read and work it well. No need to overkill your strategy with 7 different holes.

I would take speed, and ability to read holes, any day over someone who can shoot dead.

I would take slop and blind luck, but yell deadbar.

It sounds like you are ready and in need to take it to the Next Level. As I have done so several times before, I pass on some of the knowledge I have accumulated as it pertains to foosball. Knapton and I are collaborrating on a viedo called Deadbar and Beyond which will be ready soon.

As for now, since you are lacking confidence with your primary shot, I recommend another shooting series since defenses will now cheat to the middle against your roller. Hmmm, or are you just saying this to soften up the posts?

I know you know what you've got to do ... it's not rocket science just practice, practice, practice. Break it down to two motions ... fast consistent and indistinguishable tosses in either direction, and consistently contacting the, ball at deadbar with your man moving back towards the center of the goal. Like I said nothing you didn't already know, just need more practice to get it back:( Visualization helps. Don't hold your breath for jedi's video.

Thing is, foos doesn't reward the DEADBAR, like baseball does the HR. Tell ya what though, this fan places a very high value on the BILLY JACK DEADBAR!

Baseball does not reward you with an extra run if the home run leaves the stadium, not just the playing field. That would be a better deadbar comparison.

Pracrice is going good so far, thanks for the tips and reminders. I hit a few intentionally last night, and mishit a lot. I agree that it'd be dumb to force it, and better to make a good read and a good decision, but for now while I'm learning, they'll be coming much more than necessary. Good luck tonight fellow foosers!
