1st. Mike Wood/Ilya N. (Double Dip) 2nd. Wil/Danny 3rd. Jerry/Teddy 4th. Jefferson/Randy 5th/6th. Chris B./Jakub 5th/6th. Ray/Tom 7th. Rami (sp?)/Dylan
Wood and I started with Mike up front in our first match. Worked out fine. Second match (Against Jefferson and Randy) we had to switch when Mike couldn't score on Randy (no matter how many possessions he got and how well he defended the on the 5). As soon as we switched it all changed. Mike closed out 2 games with bombs from the back. So we stuck with that rotation.
When we played the Jerry/Teddy dream team, we got stuck. I couldn't score on Jerry*, while Teddy was riding the express train to longs-ville. Switched back. Mike starts covering Teddy's 5-bar, and gets possession after possession which cracks Jerry. Wood put up a wall of bricks (the irony!) against Jerry's 2 bar so much that Jerry sent at least 3 passes. I blocked Teddy well enough but he zoned me for every shot of the match. Until the last one. He zigged when he should have parked. I got the 2-bar shot I was hunting for all match.
So, Wood started front again going into the finals. Danny started up front and was reading his Danny shots perfectly, without hesitation. We switched and so did Danny and Wil. I managed a few straights on Danny, and a few longs on Wil when they switched. 2nd set was tougher, but we just kept whittling. Mike kept blocking Wil, except when he shot his amazing push kick, and Danny very well. He didn't log any goals from the 2, but he cleared great and I got a handful of rebounds on the 3. It was enough.
It was a good tournament for a small group.
Dylan, thank you for the tickets! Dylan did a great job defending against Mike. He put up a great fight. Mike had more trouble than he expected.
* - I could have shot the pull on Jerry, but that's not how we improve our game.
