Off hand, I would say pitching in baseball.
All windups and throws look exactly the same Able to hit multiple spots in the strike zone with different speeds Able to get inside someone's head, or vice versa All the focus is on you - you're either the hero or the goat

Good assessment. Then the counters on 1 & 2, from the goalie/hitter 1- looking for tells 2- going dead red on the fastball or staying back on the junk with an educated guess. 3- is covered 4- in pitchers favor, pitcher knows where it is going if he executes. Then the 2-bar long/HR The 2-bar long toss to 3-bar, partner or self fields it The 2-bar short toss to the 5-bar, partner or self fields it. The 5-bar HR/hack The 5-bar short toss with self fielding it. The D always trying to field the ball no matter how hard or soft it is hit. Your points above also relates to a batted bat with the fooser tossing the ball to his/her bat, like a fungo toss at a very fast pace most of the time. Dinks are like a fungo toss you can watch all the way. The hitting/ pitching and D fielding relates a lot but here is what relates the most for me ever since I read it in a baseball book, years ago. It is a game played in a mostly static format, with a sudden offensive explosion. Soon as I read that, I was like, that really relates to foos. Many bring up tennis but there is a lot of volley in that game. If a tennis player wore a fielding glove on the other hand, you would about have the game of foos in a nutshell, if you had to field the ball. Ha, cross sport relation. |

I think most one on one games once the skill is reached becomes highly mental. I can see the similarities in hockey shootouts, boxing mma, ping pong and most racquet sports. These sports once a decent to high skill level is reached the mental game next becomes elevated. Table tennis serving is great to make all your serves start the same but still able to hit every side of the table. MMA and fighting showing the same combo or deke to setup the opponent to think he knows what you'll do next only to mix it up and catch em hard expecting what you just showed em to hit him with something different. Crushing top spin forehand cross court over and over until they're onto it and then crushing an inside out forehand to the other corner etc etc.

Though it wouldn't have done any good, I guess I should have specified the physical ball in play, attributes of the game. IMO for the majority of players, the atmosphere part of the game consists of a snooty hobby of a social club, that doesn't want or welcome change of any kind = Nothing new would increase demand, why even try = crystal ball subjective. The mental part of foos relates to any other game or sport, and percentage wise, favors foosers who have done well, in a previous or current game or sport. There isn't any game or sport that remotely comes close to what the game is all about. It stands alone in its own leage, nothing can compare itself to foosball. Jedi Quote ....Foosball, the most brutal game on the planet, on and off the table.. Its the only game I know that you can win with one good shot..lol Jedi Edited by user Sunday, January 5, 2014 6:50:43 PM(UTC)
